Tramp iron riding on a belt hurts crushers, screens and downstream equipment. A suspension magnet hangs over the conveyor and pulls iron out of the burden: overband (self-cleaning) types carry it off on a running belt, suspended plates are cleaned by hand. A magnetic pulley at the head end splits ferrous from non-magnetic material. Sizes are quoted to belt width, belt speed, burden depth and hanging height.
