What are SmCo magnets?

SmCo (samarium cobalt) magnets are rare-earth permanent magnets made mainly from samarium and cobalt. Western catalogs (Arnold RECOMA®-class materials and equivalent SmCo5 / Sm2Co17 grades) position them for duties where NdFeB loses field in heat or needs heavy coatings to survive corrosion. Arrowmatics Magnets (Arrowmatics AI Sdn Bhd) supplies SmCo for Malaysian OEMs, MRO and industrial assemblies — written quote via WhatsApp, no online cart.

High temperature stability (often ~250–350°C)

Catalog SmCo grades commonly stay useful around ~250–300°C, with many 2:17 families specified toward ~300–350°C (confirm exact max on the grade you buy). That is why SmCo shows up in aerospace actuators, automotive under-hood sensors, turbo / exhaust-adjacent motors, and process equipment where standard NdFeB would demagnetise. Share your continuous and peak temperature on the RFQ.

Excellent corrosion resistance

SmCo has far better inherent corrosion resistance than bare NdFeB. Many industrial SmCo parts run with little or no protective plating; NdFeB usually needs NiCuNi, epoxy or similar. That helps in humid plants, chemical splash zones and outdoor heat cycles — still tell us if you need plating for appearance or galvanic pairing.

SmCo vs NdFeB — which one do I need?

NdFeB wins on remanence / room-temperature pull and usually costs less for the same size. SmCo is weaker in remanence than a comparable NdFeB volume, but wins on temperature stability and corrosion. Choose SmCo when the magnet sees high heat, aggressive environments, or when NdFeB coatings are not enough. Need max strength on a cool fixture? Start with NdFeB N35–N52.

Do you supply SmCo5 and Sm2Co17 in Malaysia?

Yes. We quote both common families: SmCo5 (1:5) and Sm2Co17 (2:17). Share grade (or temperature limit), dimensions, quantity and any plating. Based in Shah Alam — Malaysia-wide delivery arranged after quote.

Why buyers choose SmCo

High temperature

Typical catalog working range often ~250–350°C depending on grade — chosen when NdFeB would demagnetise in heat (motors, turbos, ovens, under-hood).

Corrosion resistance

Better inherent corrosion behaviour than bare NdFeB; often little/no coating needed in humid or chemical plant duty.

Stable over time

Low long-term flux loss for sensors, aerospace-style fixtures and precision industrial assemblies.

Aerospace & automotive

Actuators, under-hood sensors, motorsports / turbo-adjacent motors where heat and reliability matter.

Chemical & harsh plant

When coatings alone are not enough for NdFeB, SmCo is the usual rare-earth upgrade path.

Custom cut to drawing

Discs, blocks, rings, pots/studs, arcs and kits matched to Malaysian OEM drawings.

FamilyAlso calledTypical buyer reason
SmCo51:5Classic SmCo; excellent corrosion behaviour; many sensor / holding jobs
Sm2Co172:17Higher energy than SmCo5 in many grades; motors & compact high-temp designs (often ~300°C class catalogs)

Compare with NdFeB neodymium magnets if room-temperature strength is the priority.
